Diffusion bonding (High Technology)

Diffusion bonding is a technology to bond materials such as metal and celamic. There are two ways in diffusion bonding. They are liquid-phase and solid-phase.

Solid-phase diffusion bonding
  1. Apply pressure.
  2. Apply heat.
  3. Concavity and convexity are decreased.
  4. Bonding is completed.
Liquid-phase diffusion bonding
  1. Insert an inserting metal including element lowering fusing point into a bonding part, then apply pressure.
  2. Apply heat, then the inserting metal start to melt at a inserting part.
  3. At bonding part, isothermal clotting and diffusion will start.
  4. Bonding is completed.

For liquid-phase diffusion bonding, an inserting metal including element lowering fusing point is inserted into a bonding part. A bonding part will diffuse each other. That is a reason that diffusion bonding has more strength than wax bonding.

Products

E.g. Products to have been bonded by diffusion bonding No. 1

These were cutter-roles produced by bonding plural material.

High-grade steel (higher process cost because of its hardness) is used for the center part and law-grade steel(low process cost due to no need of hardness) to the edge. It realizes huge cost-cutting in material and processing.

※ For this technology, METI (Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) Shikoku and Kagawa university have helped us to develop in one of a 2001 project supported by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

E.g. Products to have been bonded by diffusion bonding No. 2

It is impossible for usual processing to produce these products. Diffusion bonding is the most effective way for these materials.

Liquid-phase diffusion bonding
Solid-phase diffusion bonding

Appearance of solid-phase diffusion bonding work is better, however there is not much difference in bonding strength. Liquid-phase diffusion bonding has less restriction to process such as surface roughness.

Defect evaluation by super sound flaw detector

Bonding for steels 80 mm x 60 mm. The part except dark part means a flaw which is failed to bond.

2 kinds of material has been just piled.
There seems a lot of defect.
No defect.
TANIGUCHI finishes the process with the above condition.
